SOUNDS.CFG

You can directly control whether GPSS speaks when you open it, time intervals for audible updates, whether to say route directions (if you have created them) and the like by creating a text file named SOUNDS.CFG.

Creating this file in Notepad or other editor is a good way to either keep GPSS quiet or to increase the time intervals between the time it speaks.

SOUNDS.CFG is a single-line file with 11 numbers, for example:

0, 60, 20, 50, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 60, 1

0
0 = enable all sounds
1 = suppress all sounds*
60
seconds between saying Where are we.
0 for none
20
seconds between direction and distance to direction
60
seconds between direction and speed moving
1
1 = enable route guidance instructions (if you have developed them)
0 = suppress route guidance instructions
1
1 = enable notification when you are on a new road (if you have developed this information)
0 = suppress new road notification
1
1 = enable notification of a landmark
0 = suppress landmark notification
1
1 = GPSS says when it is changing a map with a name sound file
0 = no sound when changing maps
1
1 = say when GPS signal status changes
0 = do not say GPS signal information
60
seconds between saying "Expected time of arrival"
1
1 = say traffic information (if implemented)
0 = do not say traffic information

* Exceptions: The default (self-running) demo that is initiated when GPSS does not have a GPS signal; sounds requested by keypress (e.g., 'w' for 'where are we?');and the exit query, "Are you sure you want to exit GPSS?" These are all sounded.

Once the default demo begins, you need to type 'q' ("quiet") to suppress sounds.

SOUNDS.CFG is read once, during program setup.
