Technical: The Computer Talks to You
Previous  Top  Next

In Listening to GPSS, you can read about a range of things that GPSS will tell you audibly.

How does the computer say things?

GPSS says aloud only those things that are contained in WAV sound files. You'll see many WAV files in your GPSS directory.

Many basic words in English - in fact, hundreds - have been prerecorded for you by Robin, including headings, numerals, and a number of towns and catalog types. You can see a listing of them on Robin's sounds page.

Other languages
A number of GPSS users have recorded more or less complete collections of the GPSS basic words in several languages, including
Afrikaans         Japanese
Chinese, Mandarin      Portuguese
Croat            Portuguese, Brazilian
Dutch            Russian
English, American      Spanish
Finnish            Swedish
French            Thai
German         Turkish
Greek
Italian

You can download these language sets on the GPSS language page
.

To change GPSS to use the language of your choice:
1. Add and configure your language. You have the option of GPSS starting in a language other than English.
2. Type 'j' (Jump to next language) until you reach the language you're seeking. (If your language is listed fourth in LANGUAGE.CFG, you will have to type 'j' 4 times.)

When you change languages, at the bottom right of the screen, you'll see the icon left of the Sunninghill logo turn into your national flag.
